WHAT ARE THE DATES AND TIMES FOR COMIC CON AFRICA’S ONLINE CON?

It will be held from 24 – 27 September 2020 and it begins at 10h00 and ends at 18h00 daily. These are the same dates that the physical event was booked for. Remember that Thursday 24 September is the Heritage Day public holiday. KidsCon activities will start at 10h00 and end at 15h00.

 

WHAT IS THE COST?

Comic Con Africa’s Online Con is entirely free.

 

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO ACCESS COMIC CON AFRICA’S ONLINE CON?  

We recommend a computer or laptop for the most immersive functionality.

  

IS COMIC CON AFRICA’S ONLINE CON AVAILABLE ON MOBILE?

Yes you can join in on your mobile, although we do recommend you fire up your laptop for the best experience.

  

IS COMIC CON AFRICA’S ONLINE CON AVAILABLE ON MY GAMING CONSOLE?

You can watch most content on free-to-access platforms like YouTube and Twitch but you will not be able to use the exhibitor platform as it requires a mouse and keyboard.

 

DO I HAVE TO DOWNLOAD AN APP OR OTHER SOFTWARE IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE?

No. Everything will take place in your internet browser.

 

WHAT IF I MISS IT? WILL THE CONTENT BE AVAILABLE AT A LATER TIME TO VIEW?

The majority of the content will only be available during the Con so we highly recommend you join us in real time.

 

WILL THERE BE OPPORTUNITIES TO PURCHASE MERCHANDISE?

Yes. We have loads of awesome exhibitors and artists who will be selling their merchandise at the Online Con via a specially developed platform that you can access on your web browser.

 

CAN I EXPECT THE SAME CONTENT AS USUAL?

There will be a lot of the same content as at a physical Con. This includes celeb panels and Q&A sessions, in a mix of pre-recorded and live content. There will be gaming tournaments and casual cosplay competitions and there will also be game demos that you can play. Exhibitors will be there and you will be able to live chat with them and link to their ecommerce sites.

 

WILL COMIC CON AFRICA’S ONLINE CON BE AVAILABLE ON MY FAVOURITE SOCIAL MEDIA OR VIDEO PLATFORM AS A LIVESTREAM?

Yes it will. These include YouTube, Instagram Live, Facebook Live, and Twitch. However you will only be able to interact with exhibitors through our specially developed web platform, which is also free-to-access.

 

IS THIS EVENT FOR SOUTH AFRICA ONLY?

No. Comic Con Africa’s Online Con is a truly global event – and fans from all across the world are encouraged and welcome to attend! 

 

IS THIS AN INTERACTIVE EVENT?

There will be a mix of live and pre-recorded content which will offer as much interactivity as possible. We will have our popular interactive quizzes. You can live chat with exhibitors.

 

DO I NEED TO LOG IN, REGISTER OR PROVIDE MY EMAIL TO PARTICIPATE?

You don’t need to, but we do recommend you register by 18 September to receive a free virtual goodie bag which will include a digital visitor badge and Visitor Guide, as well as special deals and vouchers from exhibitors. HOW DO I NAVIGATE COMIC CON AFRICA’S ONLINE CON?

The Con is being held on an online platform that will have a landing page “map” linking to virtual areas for each fandom. This platform is the hub of all things Comic Con Africa and Pop Culture for the event. The hub will have clearly labelled areas you can access from it. Each area will have the option to return to the central hub.

 

WHAT FANDOMS OR AREAS CAN I EXPECT TO SEE?

- The Exhibitor Hall

- Artist Alley

- Cosplay

- Gaming

- The Main Stage

- The epicentre of Pop Culture, our Studio

- Tabletop Gaming and Wargaming

- The After Dark Hall (programming begins at 18h00)

- KidsCon

 

WILL THERE BE A LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS AT COMIC CON AFRICA’S ONLINE CON?

There is no overall limit to how many people may access the platform at once. However certain interactive content, such as tabletop gaming tournaments or console/PC gaming demos, will have limits on a first-come, first-served basis so make sure to be online for the start at 10h00 each day. Professional esports tournaments are open only to registered teams who have qualified throughout the course of the year.

 

DO I NEED TO CREATE AN AVATAR FOR COMIC CON AFRICA’S ONLINE CON?

No – but hey, there’s nothing stopping you from wearing your best Cosplay while you interact online!

 

SPEAKING OF WHICH, WILL THERE BE COSPLAY?

Yes, there will be casual Cosplay competitions daily. We announced these on our social media platforms as registration and video submissions were required in advance of the Con. These have now closed. You may view the casual Cosplay competition every day from 13h00 – 14h00. 

 

WILL THIS EVENT BE “KID-FRIENDLY?”

KidsCon Online is part of Comic Con Africa’s Online Con, making it the Ultimate Family Day In!

 

IS THERE ANY AGE LIMITED CONTENT?

There may be some strong language or violence in the gaming area, depending on the game itself. These areas will be clearly labelled.

IS THERE A PROGRAMME OF EVENTS?

The programme will be released shortly before the Con and you can access it in the various halls of the online platform or on the app, as well as in the digital Visitor Guide. You can plan your day and select notifications for your favourite content on the app.

 

WHAT IF I NEED HELP?

There will be a helpdesk staffed by very helpful Comic Con Africa team members who will answer your questions.

 

ARE YOU WATCHING WITH FRIENDS?

Make sure to keep safe. Wear a mask, sanitise, and follow the correct social distancing requirements.
